Seeds keeps the ideas and quotes you save from fading. Below are answers to the questions that come up most, and how to reach us if yours isn't here.
get in touch
Email seeds@spiralocean.com. It helps to include:
- iPhone or Mac, and its iOS or macOS version
- The Seeds version (iPhone: Status; Mac: Seeds › About Seeds)
- What you did, and what happened instead
iphone and mac
| Both | Capture, daily review, Surface, Dropped, reminders, X sign-in, backups and restore |
|---|---|
| iPhone | Lock-screen widgets, the share sheet |
| Mac | File import, Markdown/CSV export, Find Duplicates, keyboard shortcuts and the capture hotkey, the Safari clipper, selecting several Seeds at once |
capture
Mac: the capture hotkey doesn't work
The hotkey reads the text you've selected in another app, which needs Accessibility permission. macOS doesn't let App Store apps ask for this themselves, so it has to be added by hand:
- Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility.
- Click + and choose Seeds (press ⇧⌘G to type its location if needed).
- Turn Seeds on.
Seeds › Settings shows whether permission is on, along with these steps.
Turning on the Safari clipper (Mac)
Open Safari › Settings › Extensions and turn on Clip to Seeds. Or go to Seeds › Settings › Capture › Safari clipper and choose Turn On in Safari.
Putting Seeds near the front of the iPhone share sheet
Open the share sheet, scroll the row of apps to the end, and tap More. Tap Edit, then add Seeds to Favorites.
X posts are saved as links, not text
To fill in a post's text and thread, Seeds needs you to sign in to X inside Seeds. On iPhone, go to Status › Clipping. On Mac, go to Settings › Capture › X posts. Without signing in, X posts are still saved as links.
reminders
Changing or turning off notifications
On iPhone, go to Status › Reminders to turn them on or off, set the hours, and check permission. On Mac, go to Settings › Daily seeds. The hours and Seeds per day are shared between your iPhone and Mac.
your library
Deleting and reinstalling Seeds on iPhone
Your library comes back from iCloud. Daily backups are kept in iCloud Drive › Seeds › Backups, so they're still there after deleting the app. To use one, go to Status › Backups › Restore from automatic backup.
Videos over 100 MB, and notes kept on this device only, are lost when the app is deleted unless you export them first.
Restoring a backup
Restoring adds anything that's missing from your library and skips what's already there, so nothing is duplicated or overwritten.
Moving to a new Mac
Migration Assistant brings over your library, backups and settings. On the new Mac, allow Accessibility again (see the hotkey question above), allow notifications, and check that the Safari clipper is on.
Finding duplicates (Mac)
Choose Import › Find duplicates…. Identical Seeds are merged and the extra copies go to Dropped.
Getting back something I deleted
Deleted Seeds and Quotes go to Dropped, where you can restore them for 30 days.
